Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, joined Member for Caloundra, Kendall Morton MP, Chambers of Commerce and local businesses for the 2025 Glassies Gala – the annual celebration of small business excellence in the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Hinterland.

Partnering with neighbouring MP Kendall Morton this year ensured businesses located on the border of the Caloundra and Glass House electorates were fully included and recognised.

The gala event, held in conjunction with Queensland’s Small and Family Business Month, is the culmination of two months of nominations and voting to celebrate all that business is and does for the region.

Tuesday night’s gala – where the winners were announced - was held in the south of the electorate, at Woodford Hotel, providing an iconic new backdrop for one of the region’s most anticipated community events.

“The Glassies are about celebrating the people behind our local small businesses – the heart and soul of our community,” Mr Powell said.

“We received over 3,000 votes this year, and it’s great to be involved and celebrate all the fantastic businesses and employees across both the Glass House and hinterland portion of the Caloundra electorates,” Ms Morton commented.

While the silver “Glassies” are awarded based on public votes, the bronze awards are selected by the Presidents of the local Chambers of Commerce. The prestigious “Gold Glassies” are handpicked by Mr Powell in consultation with the Chamber Presidents.

They’re an incredible contributor to their community and regularly open their doors for charity fundraisers and events.

“As soon as I saw the sheer number of nominations for Dick, I knew he would be a top contender for a Gold Glassie. Since then, we were blown away with the number of votes, and the comments highlighting Dick’s contributions to the community, his kindness, and the ability to make every customer smile.” Mr Powell said.

“Thank you to everyone who nominated, voted, and contributed to another great Glassies Gala for 2025,” concluded Mr Powell.
