Gallery: Carols draw record crowd as Nambour celebrates under the stars
Nambour turned on a glittering night of Christmas cheer on Friday as an estimated 5000 people flocked to Sundale’s Community Christmas Carols, cementing the event as one of the town’s most loved annual traditions.
Organisers believe last year’s crowd of about 4000 grew to 5000 this year, transforming the Doolan Street grounds into a festive playground of lights, music and family fun. “The return of the free Community Christmas Carols evening has been bigger than we had anticipated,” said organiser and Community Engagement Manager, Rochelle Coombs. “We knew it had always been a well-loved community event but we are now becoming aware of how important it always was to the wider community.”
The grounds buzzed from the moment gates opened, with families lining up for free rides including The Sizzler, the Trackless Train and a bundle of carnival favourites. Children dashed between Christmas games run by Sundale staff, proudly clutching their prizes, while the Christmas Markets offered handmade gifts for early shoppers.
On stage, The Idol Family had the crowd singing along, followed by standout performances from JaZZella, Chris Ah Gee and Jinja Blue’s Christmas Spectacular, and a lively roster of local entertainers.
Santa’s arrival at 5.30pm drew shrieks of delight, before the night wrapped with a fireworks and laser finale that lit up the December sky.
