Red tape dampens Eudlo Anzac service
Eudlo’s usual small Anzac Day dawn service could not be held this year after Sunshine Coast Council required a permit, public liability insurance and other conditions.
Honorary Flag Officer Clive Plater OAM said the requirements were unrealistic for a small community commemoration.
“The main costs were: $330 non refundable application fee, $20 million public liability insurance, a traffic management plan by a traffic control company, safety management plan, a site map and umpteen pages to fill in,” Mr Plater said.
Despite the formal service not going ahead, many locals still came to the Eudlo War Memorial at dawn to pay their respects, place wreaths and see the flag raised by Mr Plater and his grandsons in accordance with Anzac Day protocol.
“We very much appreciate the support conveyed by the Eudlo community on the day and through social media before and after,” Mr Plater said.
