Blackall Terrace Dental joins national program to recycle oral care waste
In a move that strengthens its commitment to long-term health for both patients and the planet, Blackall Terrace Dental has joined a national sustainability initiative aimed at reducing landfill waste from everyday dental products.
As part of the Colgate Recycling Program, operated in partnership with TerraCycle, Blackall Terrace Dental is now a registered public drop-off point for used oral care items. These include products that typically can't be placed in household recycling bins, such as:
● Toothbrushes (manual and electric heads)
● Toothpaste tubes and caps
● Mouthwash bottles
● Floss containers and outer packaging
● Interdental brushes
“We’re proud to offer our patients and the wider community a way to reduce waste and support sustainable practices,” says Practice Manager Joseph Reiner. “It’s a small but meaningful way to extend our care beyond the clinic.”
The decision to join the recycling initiative builds on Blackall Terrace Dental’s broader legacy of care from growing local jobs, to offering bulk-billed children’s dental exams, and providing sedation options for nervous patients.
“Sustainability is just another form of preventative care,” adds Mr Reiner. “This is about protecting smiles and supporting a healthy future, not just for individuals, but for the Sunshine Coast as a whole.”
As a public drop-off location, the clinic welcomes both patients and non-patients to bring in accepted oral care waste during opening hours. A collection station is available at the practice meaning you can just drop-and-go.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the recycling effort can check accepted items via the TerraCycle website, or contact Blackall Terrace Dental directly at www.blackallterracedental.com.au or by calling the dental team on (07) 5441 3583.
The Nambour practice now offers a convenient drop-and-go service for oral waste products.
