Petrie Creek BushCare volunteers are returning to their Gulung Gung site beside Petrie Creek at Quota Park Extension this week, marking their first visit since September due to homeless camping in the area.
By the time this edition reaches readers, the group will already be on site tackling a surge in weed growth.
In the interim, much of the heavy lifting has been undertaken by Sunshine Coast Council contractor JM Bushland Maintenance, which has removed a significant number of weeds. Volunteers have thanked Josh and his team for their work and will continue from there.
BushCare’s next working bee at Gulung Gung will be held on Wednesday February 25 from 7am.
Volunteers are also invited to join upcoming habitat restoration activities at the group’s other sites:
• Florabunda Pocket, Woombye – Saturday March 7 from 7am. Meet near the back rugby oval in Victory Park, Woombye. Access via Laidlaw Road, turning right through the large wire mesh gates just before the Gymnastics Hall and following the road to the group; and
• Namba Creek, Nambour – Saturday March 21 from 7am. Access is through the main gate of the Model Rail Park off Florence Street.
Participants are asked to wear “long everything” bush-protective clothing, including boots or sturdy shoes and a hat. All tools will be provided.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to email Norm Morwood in advance or simply turn up on the day.
