Contractors lend a hand in vine battle at Gulung Gung

Petrie Creek BushCare News with Norm Morwood

Contractors Josh McKechnie and Jake Flynn recently joined our habitat restoration efforts at Gulung Gung, near the new park downstream of Quota Park in Nambour.

They were tackling a regrowth of Thunbergia grandiflora (Blue Trumpet Vine), one of the most invasive weeds in the region. It’s returned to a section we worked on a few years ago, and this time required extra help.

Thanks to Sunshine Coast Council’s BushCare Program, we get contractor support several times a year for tougher jobs like this. Their work complements the regular efforts of our volunteer team, who meet monthly to remove weeds and plant native species.

If you’d like to get involved, our next volunteer mornings are:
• Florabunda Pocket – Saturday June 7, 8am. Meet near the back rugby oval at Woombye, via Laidlaw Rd and through the mesh gates near the Gymnastics Hall.
• Namba Creek – Saturday June 21, 8am. Access via the main gate to the Model Rail Park, Florence St, Nambour.

Wear long sleeves, long pants, boots and a hat. Tools are provided, and we finish with a well-earned cuppa.
