The Night Sky Journey is the tour operator's latest offering, guiding small groups into the Sunshine Coast Hinterland's Dark Sky Reserve – one of only a handful of internationally recognised dark sky places in the world.

“People don't just come for the stars,” says owner-operator Lynn Fallon. “They come because they're craving the peace and quiet that comes with our beautiful natural environment. We watch shoulders drop and relax the moment the bus takes them into nature.”

The evening begins with sunset over the Glass House Mountains, followed by a long-table supper of soup and bread in a private rainforest setting, before guests settle in for guided stargazing through state-of-the-art telescopes. An astronomer also leads the group through naked-eye and binocular viewing, with red lighting preserving night vision as the Milky Way emerges overhead.

“Our region is extraordinary because it holds everything – beach, mountain, rainforest and some of the darkest, clearest skies on the continent,” Lynn says. “We want to help people to feel that connection in one night.”

Guests can also take home a keepsake: a silhouette photo against the Milky Way, captured by astronomer Tyson Purdie for an optional $20.

Mystic Mountain Tours prides itself on a personal touch – no apps, just a phone call to Lynn and Andrew themselves. “We treat every passenger like our tour family,” said Lynn. “That sense of belonging is what keeps people coming back.”
