Old corner cleared for town’s next chapter
ONE of Nambour CBD’s most prominent corners has been transformed, with the old buildings at Currie and Bury streets now demolished to make way for developer Rod Constantinides’ major residential project.
The cleared site, opposite Nambour Library, will become Thalia, a 162-unit build-to-rent development planned as two connected buildings containing one-bedroom apartments, ground-floor commercial tenancies, a co-working area and resident facilities including a bath house with saunas, steam room and hot tubs.
The demolition marks a major milestone after about five years of planning and design work by Mr Constantinides and ARM Property Investment Group.
Mr Constantinides has long argued that bringing more people to live in the heart of Nambour will help strengthen the CBD, providing more customers for local businesses and greater activity in the town centre after hours.
The corner itself has seen many changes over the decades, including Retravision and Carolans Arcade in the 1990s, while more recent tenants included Small Change Espresso, Maori Pizza and Saint Atlas.
Construction is expected to take about 18 months.
