German visitors enjoy Sunshine Coast visit and friendship with local Friendship Force

Jeff Guns from Sunshine Coast makes ANZAC biscuits with four German visitors.

The Friendship Force Club of Sunshine Coast recently hosted 15 folk from Hamburg, Lubeck and Varel in Germany. The visitors were home hosted for a week with members of the local club and were introduced to many aspects of Queensland life, including visiting the heritage cottage on Buderim and learning about the sugar cane industry.

They walked through rainforest and spotted pademelons at Mary Cairncross Park. They even learned how to cook ANZAC biscuits. Something that especially impressed them was our culture of volunteer service such as shown by our Surf Lifesavers.

It was an eye opener to them that the distance between Europe and Australia is so vast, requiring such a long plane journey, and also that Australia is so big.

Prior to their time here on the Sunshine Coast they had been hosted by the Newcastle Friendship Force Club. A number of them did further travelling within Australia before heading back to Germany.
