New $840,000 funding to restore Nambour Netball Courts after flood damage

The Nambour & Districts Netball Association will receive $840,277 in disaster recovery funding to repair courts damaged by flooding, in a move set to restore full netball operations across the hinterland.

The grant, announced last week by the Hon. Tim Mander MP, Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, will fund remediation works and help re-establish netball at Woombye. The funding comes through the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Grant for the Western Queensland Surface Trough and Associated Rainfall and Flooding, which occurred between 21 March and 19 May 2025, and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under disaster recovery funding arrangements.

Minister Mander said the funding would allow the association to bring all seven of its courts back into full use.

"The club has seven courts but some of those are out of action, and the whole idea of this funding is to restore the full seven courts so that we can have as many people playing netball," he said.

"This is great news for the association and great news for people that want to play netball in Nambour and the surrounding districts."

Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt said the investment reflected the importance of local sporting infrastructure.

"This significant grant will get these courts back up to scratch, ensuring the Nambour & Districts Netball Club can continue to provide a safe and welcoming place for generations of local players," Mr Hunt said.

"Our local sporting clubs are at the heart of our community, and it's vital they have safe, high-quality facilities where people of all ages can stay active, connect and enjoy the game they love."

Nambour & Districts Netball President Tracey Mitchell said the club is the only netball association in the hinterland, and the funding would be transformative.

"This funding means that we can get all of our courts in use again. It means we can play more games. We can get our member numbers back up, and we can host more carnivals, which is very exciting," Ms Mitchell said.

"We haven't been able to have carnivals here in years."

Ms Mitchell said construction is expected to begin within the next few months, and thanked both levels of government for their support in securing the grant.

"A big thank you to them and the State and Federal governments for the funding," she said.
