Exotic tastes of the Middle East in Yandina

Joseph and Alicia Shaich Yusuf are excited to be dishing up fresh flavours from a new location.

One of the Sunshine Coast’s most loved market stalls is now serving their famous falafel feeds from a new location.

Hakoora Foods has added a modern café to their offerings, at 4 Stevens Street, Yandina.

Alongside their mouthwatering breakfast and lunch offerings, Hakoora has partnered with local roastery Slide Coffee to ensure coffee cravings are satisfied.

Owners Joseph and Alicia Shaich Yusuf are excited to be dishing up fresh flavours from a new location.

"We've been at the Yandina Markets and doing local festivals for 10 years now, so opening our first shop is exciting," Joseph said.

"Where I’m from in Jerusalem, everyone is always welcoming strangers and sharing food, so I hope to bring that to Yandina and the hinterland," he said.

"Hakoora Foods is an extension of our family, our two kids have been involved in the business since it started and we appreciate the support our community has shown us."

Alicia said they work closely with local farmers and producers to source the best ingredients.

"Whether it’s the chickpeas, parsley, pickles or spices, we’ve taken time to source them carefully for the most authentic taste," she said.

Their falafels are made to a generations-old family recipe Joseph’s, and packed with freshly picked local produce and aromatic spices.

"We have created a menu catering to a wide variety of tastes and preferences being mostly plant based, with a few meat dishes too," Joseph said.

"It includes everything from shakshuka eggs and a fresh herb omelette to a range of dips and vibrant Middle Eastern salads, all made fresh.

"All coffee lovers need to try our tasting plate, which includes cardamon-spiced Arabic coffee."

Hakoora Foods is open Wednesday to Saturday, 6am to 2pm, and will still be running market stalls at Yandina Markets on Saturdays, and various festivals throughout the year.
