Urgent call to CEO for clarity on Nambour homelessness
Helen Tagg… “It’s been really hard to get clear answers. Most responses are vague or avoid the points people actually want to know about.”
NAMBOUR’S homelessness situation continues to raise concerns and local advocate Helen Tagg says the community still doesn’t know what’s being done to address it.
Frustrated by unclear responses from council, Mrs Tagg has formally requested a meeting with Sunshine Coast Council CEO John Baker to get a clearer picture of the homelessness response, community safety, and environmental protections.
Mrs Tagg, who runs the Nambour Now advo- cacy group, has been pushing for plans that support people experiencing homelessness while considering the wider community and environment.
“I’ve been asking direct questions about what’s being done to help people experiencing homelessness, how the community is being kept safe, and how environmental concerns are being managed,” she said.
“It’s been really hard to get clear answers. Most responses are vague or avoid the points people actually want to know about.”
The request for a meeting comes amid a lack of transparency about what’s next for homelessness initiatives.
“The Housing Minister did not attend the homelessness forum on 6th November, leaving everyone uncertain about where things stand.” While waiting for a response, Mrs Tagg is staying in touch with local representatives.
“This is about making sure people get answers, not politics,” she said. “The community deserves to know what’s happening with homelessness.” She hopes a face-to-face meeting with the Sunshine Coast Council CEO will finally provide clarity.
“We’re all trying to work together for the good of Nambour. Being open and honest about homelessness shouldn’t be too much to ask.” The Nambour Homelessness Working Group is also set to meet later this month to review progress since the November forum, giving another chance to track initiatives and ensure community concerns are being addressed.
