Himalaya Trek aims to raise funds for Parkinson’s research
In an incredible achievement, 19 Australians have helped to raise a conversation about Parkinson's Disease, breaking down barriers and societal norms, sometimes misinformed at best. Aged from 16 to 73, these people have trekked, to 5,416m over the Thorang La Pass in Nepal, on the Annapurna Circuit.
Over the past few months they have chatted at local Men’s shed, coffee shops, helped sell pancakes, held Tibetan dinners, conducted golf days, hosted BBQs at Bunnings, made many phone calls, conducted raffles, held head shaving events and harassed sponsors, (nicely of course), all with the goal of raising awareness and funds for Parkinson's Disease research in Australia.
Fifty two thousand dollars has been achieved and all donated to Shake it Up Australia to fund research in Australia to find better treatments for Parkinson’s Disease.
“The greatest achievement this year has been the conversations held, the barriers broken down, and of course the money raised,” said a spokesperson.
