Hinterland Blues eye finals berth as QFA crunch time looms
The Hinterland Blues are holding onto fourth spot on the QFA Division 1 Seniors ladder with just two matches remaining before finals.
A dominant 101-point win over Sandgate on July 26 gave the Blues a critical boost, but they couldn’t back it up Saturday, going down to third-placed Springwood 109 to 66 at their home ground, Palmwoods’ Property Lane Oval.
Despite the 43-point loss, the Blues remain well placed in the top four with 28 points — four clear of Caloundra.
The Blues now have a bye this weekend before hosting ladder leaders Mayne on Saturday August 16 at 2pm, followed by their final match of the regular season away to Sandgate on August 25.
Wins in either game could be enough to secure a finals spot, depending on results elsewhere.
Mayne remain undefeated this season, while Sandgate sit equal last with Moreton Bay on six points.
With the finals fast approaching, the Blues will be looking to sharpen up and lock in their September campaign.
