Health Feature: Hinterland Physio Group joins forces with Montville Health Centre
The Hinterland Physio Group expanded into Montville in April offering their Physiotherapy services to residents on the top of the Range.
“We are now offering our physiotherapy services from our clinic which is located in the Montville Health Centre, next to the Clock Shop,” said Director, Bill Hinds.
“We felt that there was a real gap in health services for residents on the northern end of the range and we are really excited to be able to look after people without them having to travel down the hill.”
The Hinterland Physio team includes six senior Physiotherapists and a senior Massage Therapist. The team offers general physiotherapy services to people aged from six years and up, pelvic health services for men and women, vertigo treatment, sports injury rehabilitation, post operative rehabilitation, NDIS and disability services, massage, and dry needling.
“I think that people are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of physiotherapy and how it can assist them to not only manage, but improve various health conditions and injuries,” Mr Hinds said.
Professional help with OsteoArthritis
Mr Hinds said that, as physiotherapists, his team was trained to assess patients and diagnose various conditions and as a result, make recommendations for treatment and management. “Often, the strategies we use are relatively simple, but they can be incredibly effective when it comes to enhancing both quality and enjoyment of life.”
The Hinterland Physio team is trained in the GLA:D® program, an international evidence-based program which assists those suffering with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms.
“The GLA:D® (Good Life with OsteoArthritis: Denmark) Australia program is a comprehensive education and exercise program, designed for individuals experiencing hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms,” said Mr Hinds.
The program aims to reduce pain, improve joint function, improve the participants’ confidence, decrease reliance of pain medication and ultimately enhance the quality of life for participants.
“The program itself involves education sessions about osteoarthritis, tailored exercise sessions, and a focus on self-management skills,” Mr Hinds said.
“As anyone suffering with this condition will tell you, the pain can be debilitating and quite devastating to mobility and overall quality of life.
“Our patients learn how to manage their pain, improve their physical activity, and prevent symptom progression. Research from the GLA:D® program in Australia since its introduction in 2016 has shown on average, a reduced usage of pain medication by 47%, knee pain reduction of 33%, hip pain reduction of 27%, and improved quality of life by 25%.
“In our experience it gives both relief and improved quality of life, allowing participants to do what they want to do. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to help our patients in this way.”
