Imelda’s on Maple brings fashion, fun and comfort to footwear

Rachel Fentiman: “Shoes are a real, practical extension of art and fashion.”

When Maleny’s Rachel Fentiman ‘put it out to the Universe’ at the start of the year that she wanted a change of direction in her life, she had no idea she would soon become the proud owner of her favourite shop in Maple Street.

“I grew up in Maleny and I always loved Imelda’s on Maple,” Rachel said. “I adore shoes, and Imelda’s had the best!

“Early in the year, the previous owner called me and asked if I was interested in buying the business, as she wanted to retire. I said yes on the spot, and the deal was sealed when I knew that her wonderful staff, Annie, Charlie and Charmaine were keen to stay. They are the heart and soul of the business (no pun intended!) and because I am still active in my theatre career, I knew I could make it work if they were there to help me,” Rachel said.

With a background in theatre, and as an optical dispenser, Imelda’s has proven to be a perfect fit for Rachel.

“Shoes are a real, practical extension of art and fashion,” Rachel said.

“But the wonderful thing about footwear now is that it is increasingly designed for foot health, comfort and style.

“Today, people want more comfortable shoes and we are seeing more styles released that have lower, flatter heels and are super soft and designed to incorporate arch and heel support. Many of the lines we carry have been specifically designed to fit orthotics.

“It is fantastic to see this because foot pain is absolutely debilitating,” she said.

Imelda’s on Maple stocks hugely popular brands such as Archopedigo, Revere, Cabello and Django and Juliette.

“We also stock Merrell, which is fabulous for active people, and due to popular demand, we are thrilled to be stocking Sketchers,” said Rachel.
