Local book launch of new middle grade trilogy from Sunshine Coast author

On Saturday March 7, Sunshine Coast author Jayne McIntyre celebrated the launch of her debut children's novel, 'The Feathers of Farwood and The Gripps Curse' with more than 65 guests at Library+ Caloundra.

The book, for middle grade readers aged 8-12, is inspired by Australian animals and landscapes, and is the first in an all-new trilogy published by Riveted Press. It will be available in bookstores nationally from March 17.

Maleny business, Rosetta Books, was official bookseller on the day, and quickly sold out of copies. Those hoping to get an early copy (before the bookstore release) can order now at: The Feathers of Farwood and The Gripps Curse - PRE-ORDER — Riveted Press.

Rosetta Books and other Coast bookshops like Harry Harthog and The Little Book Nook also have copies on order.

Before entering the publishing world, Jayne (who went to school in Nambour and now lives in Mountain Creek) worked as a journalist and magazine editor. She is now a Marketing Manager on the Sunshine Coast, where she currently balances her day job with her creative writing career.

Like many aspiring authors, much of her fiction writing is done late at night or in the early mornings before work.

“I still love my career in marketing, but now I’m equally excited to add school talks, library visits, and community events to the mix,” she said.

“Sharing stories with kids and sparking their imagination is the ultimate goal.

“Breaking into traditional publishing as a new author isn’t easy, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be working with Rowena at Riveted Press, and with the talented illustrator Tamlyn Teow, whose artwork has brought my cover to life.”

Jayne says that Australian wildlife like the Eastern Barn Owl are a focus of her story, encouraging readers (of all ages!) to find magic in the everyday.

“Owls pop up again and again in children’s literature for a reason. They’re wise, mysterious, and just the right amount of magical,” she said.

“I hope The Feathers of Farwood becomes a cherished adventure for children and families, sparking curiosity, courage, and connection with the natural world.”
