Kate Holden returns to Maleny for Outspoken

Author Kate Holden, pictured, will return to Maleny for an Outspoken conversation with Steven Lang on Wednesday, June 24, discussing her latest book, The Ruin of Magic.

In the essay collection, Holden examines home and belonging in an Australia still grappling with old and often avoided truths. A multi-generation Australian, she explores her yearning for a long-ago Europe and its writers and thinkers, alongside her connection to the Australian landscape.

Holden is the author of The Winter Road, winner of the 2021 Walkley Book Award and the 2022 NSW Premier’s Literary Award for Nonfiction, as well as the memoirs In My Skin and The Romantic.

The evening will also introduce Sunshine Coast Hinterland author Georgia Harper, whose first novel, What I Would Do to You, won Best Debut Book at the 2025 Davitt Awards and was shortlisted for Best Crime Fiction Debut at the 2025 Danger Awards.

Outspoken presents Kate Holden in conversation with Steven Lang on Wednesday, June 24, from 6pm for 6.30pm. Tickets are $30, or $20 for students, via www.outspokenmaleny.com.
