Rapid relief team serves SES volunteers keeping Chook Chase safe

The Rapid Relief Team has ensured SES volunteers were well-fed as they provided safety support to an epic dirt biking adventure in the town of Kenilworth in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

SES volunteers from Kenilworth, Caloundra, Nambour and Kawana camped in the area for three days to support the annual Kenilworth Chook Chase.

The Chook Case is an off-road trail ride through forests and national parks, with all funds raised distributed to local community groups.

Local Team Leader Ralph Collett said RRT Gympie volunteers were there to support the SES and provided 134 meals across the Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.

“RRT is pleased to support the SES whenever they need it – whether it’s during a natural disaster, or during a fun community event like the Chook Chase,” said Ralph.

“Our volunteers served burgers for dinner, bacon and egg rolls for breakfast, and prepared packed lunches and snack packs for volunteers before they headed out to checkpoints.”

The SES had volunteers stationed at 15 checkpoints across the Chook Chase course, where they were standing by to assist Queensland Ambulance Service in case anyone was injured in difficult-to-access terrain.

SES Caloundra expressed its gratitude: “A big thanks goes out to RRT for supporting the SES yet again by providing meals for our hungry volunteers!”

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
