Local artists capture South East Queensland’s natural treasures in 2026 calendar supporting Mapleton public art project

A stunning new 2026 wall calendar celebrating the flora and fauna of south east Queensland has been released to support Mapleton’s “Art in Public Spaces” project.

Featuring twelve original artworks — one for each month — the calendar highlights the region’s distinctive biodiversity through watercolour and coloured pencil works by local artists. Each piece captures a unique aspect of the natural environment, from a bright red bottlebrush in full bloom, to a playful platypus gliding through a rainforest creek, and an abstract composition of yellow and purple banksia.

Beyond its artistic appeal, the calendar includes 2027 reference dates for convenience and practicality.

All proceeds from sales will directly support Mapleton’s Art in Public Spaces initiative, which aims to enhance community areas through the installation and exhibition of local art.

“Having a purpose for my art encouraged me to improve my techniques and work together with other artists,” said Joyce Simpson. “This has been a rewarding time for us all.”

“This calendar is a collection of outstanding art — you will be surprised how talented the local artists are,” said Nita C Lester, spokesperson for the Art in Public Spaces project. “It reflects both the creativity and community spirit that make Mapleton such a special place.”

The 2026 south east Queensland Flora and Fauna Calendar is available for $10, making it an affordable and meaningful gift for art and nature lovers alike.

Copies can be purchased at Mapleton Post Office, Lindner Family Pharmacy and Mapleton Library Community Centre and from the community Stall at the Mapleton Country Market.

The project is proudly supported by many local sponsors, including Blackall Range Lions Club, Greenlinkweb Solutions, Lindner Family Pharmacy, Mapleton Bowls Club, Mapleton IGA, Mapleton Men’s Shed, Mapleton Post Office, Range Electrical - Brad Flemming, Roger Loughnan Real Estate, The Barn on Flaxton, Team Smith Maleny Ray White, Zonta Club of the Blackall Range, whose contributions have helped bring the calendar to life and ensure that proceeds directly benefit the community.
