Forty years on, Mapleton Library celebrates its past and plans for the future

Mapleton Library Community Centre marked a major milestone this week, celebrating its 40th anniversary with an enthusiastic turnout of community members, long-time supporters, and friends.

Attendees enjoyed an array of delicious nibbles and wines,  and the sharing of stories from across the organisation’s history. Many guests reconnected with familiar faces while also meeting new supporters who have joined the community in recent years. New volunteers were warmly welcomed.

A highlight of the celebration was a slide show featuring historical records and photographs that traced the organisation’s evolution from early beginnings to its achievements today.

Mapleton Library Community Centre extends a heartfelt thank you to all volunteers – past and present – whose dedication has shaped its success, as well as to the local businesses whose generous support helped make the celebration possible.

“We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has been part of our journey,” said Dr Nita C Lester, President. “This celebration reminded us that our success comes from the strong and caring community that surrounds us.”

Mapleton Library Community Centre offers an extensive collection of over 11,000 books and magazines. It also organises workshops, classes, and support sessions for young families and those isolated at home. Mapleton Library Community Centre also advocates for community improvements and connects local organisations supporting future improvements.

The ‘Art in Public Spaces’ Project is engendering community pride and empowerment.  The Mapleton Library Community Centre is for all ages and for all interest groups.

The 40th anniversary event not only honoured the past but also energised participants to build a bright future. With continued community support, Mapleton Library Community Centre looks forward to expanding its impact in the decades to come. This soft celebration will be followed by a larger celebration in 2026 which will include a published record.
