MP seeks more funding to fast-track Nambour Place Plan
Mr Hunt said he had helped secure funding for stage one of the Nambour Place Plan in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council and was now working to obtain funding for stage two.
Nicklin MP Marty Hunt says he is pushing for more State Government funding to accelerate the next stage of Nambour’s town centre revitalisation.
Speaking at the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch Up on July 2, Mr Hunt said Nambour was enjoying renewed confidence and private investment, but more support was needed to keep momentum moving.
“Look, I love this Nambour community. Look at all the people here. It’s so positive at the moment. It is on the up and up,” he said.
Mr Hunt said he had helped secure funding for stage one of the Nambour Place Plan in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council and was now working to obtain funding for stage two.
“Stage two, I’m actively working on getting funding out of the transport minister at the moment and the negotiations have been positive, to put it that way,” he said. “We want to accelerate that Nambour Place Plan because a lot of work was put into that.”
Mr Hunt also used the chamber gathering to promote his Above and Beyond Awards, which aim to recognise the positive work of local people, businesses, groups and volunteers.
He said the awards had attracted more than 200 nominations across 11 categories, with voting opening the day before the chamber event. “There’s been over a thousand votes already without even promoting it,” he said.
The awards night will be held at Nambour RSL on August 15 and will be MC’d by Kim McCosker, of Four Ingredients fame.
Mr Hunt said the awards were part of a deliberate effort to highlight good news in the community.
“At the start of the year, I sat down with my staff. We did a planning session. We talked about all the things we have to fix,” he said. “But we discussed so many of the positive things going on in the community and we don’t celebrate that enough.”
