Mix Taste Eat bounces back with new studio

A Nambour cooking school hit hard by flooding from Cyclone Alfred has bounced back in a new Currie Street studio and is now looking to strengthen the community connections that helped it survive.
Mix Taste Eat founder and nutritionist Daneyl Regan told the October Nambour Chamber of Commerce coffee catch-up the support she received after the flooding had shown her the value of Nambour’s business community.
“Last year Mix Taste Eat was significantly impacted by the Nambour floods from cyclone Alfred, and it was pretty overwhelming time as a small business owner,” she said.
“The support I received from the Nambour Chamber of Commerce and Marty Hunt and the wider Nambour community was incredible.
“There were people advocating for me and checking in and offering help and genuinely wanting to see my business get back on its feet.”
Daneyl said the business was now firmly looking ahead. “Mix Taste Eat is still here and we're in a new studio and we're looking forward to what's coming next.”
The hands-on cooking school works with homeschool students, teenagers, adults with disabilities and members of the wider community, with programs aimed at developing practical cooking skills, independence and social connections.
“My goal is to use food and cooking to build confidence, independence and connection,” Daneyl said.
“One of my favourite things is watching someone walk into the studio and they say, ‘I can't cook. I don't know how to cook. I'm a terrible cook.’ And then they leave two hours later carrying a container of food that they've made themselves and they're usually looking quite pleased with themselves.”
Daneyl is also keen to build stronger links with Nambour businesses through private cooking experiences for workplace team building, Christmas parties and end-of-year celebrations.
Her fully equipped Currie Street kitchen can also be hired for workshops, meetings and events, with Daneyl welcoming opportunities to collaborate with other local businesses.
“After the support this community has given my business, I'm particularly excited about finding more ways that Mix Taste Eat can support and work with other businesses here in Nambour,” she said.
