Healthy boost as Montville welcomes new pharmacy

Montville residents have celebrated the  opening of a new pharmacy in the village, marking a major step forward in restoring local healthcare services.

Located beside the Montville IGA Local Grocer, the pharmacy is open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and is operated by pharmacists Abdul Mohammed and Vishal Guray.

Mr Mohammed said he was grateful for the warm reception from locals. “We’ve felt very welcome here,” he said. “There’s still work to do to grow the business, but we’re committed to building something long-term with the community.”

He said the new pharmacy filled a vital gap in local services. “It’s important for people to have access to both a doctor and a pharmacy in town, especially for those who prefer to shop and manage their health locally,” Mr Mohammed said.

Mr Guray said the opening marked the return of a vital service that many residents feared was lost when the town’s previous pharmacy closed its doors.   “Having a pharmacy right here makes it easier for people to stay local,” he said. “It means they can see the doctor, pick up prescriptions, and do their shopping—all without leaving Montville.”

  The opening also coincided with the recent relocation of Dr Herbert’s Montville Health Centre to premises near the Visitor Information Centre. 

“We are so fortunate to have both a doctor and a pharmacy back in Montville,” said Montville Chamber of Commerce President Shiralee Cooper. “Now it’s important for us to support local to ensure they stay.”

Local shoppers have already expressed relief at no longer needing to travel to neighbouring towns for prescriptions and over the counter medicines. Abdul stocks a full range of medications, health products and professional advice services, aiming to serve everyone from young families to retirees.

The Montville Pharmacy opening caps months of campaigning by community leaders and the Chamber of Commerce to restore essential healthcare services in the hinterland village.
