Nambour gets early jump on Buy Local Day

Suzanne King from LDL Boutique is gearing up for Buy Local events in Nambour on Thursday and Saturday.

Nambour and hinterland residents are being urged to keep their spending close to home as Buy Local Day shines a light on the small businesses that help drive local jobs, town centres and community life across the region.

Buy Local Day will be held on Saturday, June 27, as part of a Sunshine Coast-wide push to support the more than 39,000 small and medium businesses that underpin the local economy and provide employment opportunities for local families.

In Nambour, the message will come to life ahead of the day with a special community activation at the Nambour Town Market on Thursday, June 25, from 8am to 1pm.

Visitors will be encouraged to support local stallholders, enjoy the town centre atmosphere and take part in giveaways with 91.1 Hot FM from 10am.

The activation is designed to launch Nambour’s Buy Local Day activities and give residents and visitors another reason to shop, dine and explore locally.

Buy Local Day is a reminder of the vital role local businesses play in creating jobs, supporting families, and shaping the Sunshine Coast’s unique character.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli  said the day was an opportunity for the community to make a simple choice with a lasting impact.

“Buy Local Day is about backing our remarkable small and medium businesses across the Sunshine Coast,” Mayor Natoli said.

“Local business creates local employment so when we choose to shop locally, we’re investing in jobs, families, and our region’s future.”

“Of course, every day is a great day to buy from a local business, and Buy Local Day is a fantastic reminder to keep that spending close to home.

“Supporting local businesses helps drive a thriving economy right here in our community.

“On June 27, make the choice– buy local and support Sunshine Coast businesses”.

Local business owner and Buy Local Day Ambassador Roz White said even small spending decisions can make a big difference.

“As a local business owner, I see firsthand how important it is to support local,” Ms White said.

“When you shop local, more money stays right here on the Sunshine Coast.”

“At our White’s IGAs, we’re proud to support local producers every single day, Buy Local Day is a great reminder of why that matters.”

With end of financial year sales in full swing, Buy Local Day is also a perfect opportunity for Sunshine Coast residents to make their spending go further, for themselves and their community.

Meet the Makers

Buying local is also an important aspect for our business community.

More than 40 businesses showcased their products at Meet the Makers, the Food & Agribusiness Network’s flagship trade event, held at Venue 114 this year on 23 June.

Designed to connect the region's food and beverage businesses with chefs, retailers, distributors, hospitality venues and industry professionals seeking new products, suppliers and partnerships, the event attracted more than 140 local buyers and businesses.

Nambour brings Buy Local to life

Buy Local Day will come to life in Nambour, with a special community activation held ahead of the big day at the Nambour Town Market on Thursday 25 June from 8am-1pm

Visitors can enjoy the vibrant market atmosphere while supporting local stall holders and join in the fun with giveaways from 91.1 Hot FM from 10am.

The activation is set to launch Nambour’s Buy Local Day activities, showcasing the best of local businesses and provide a great reason for residents and visitors alike to shop, dine and explore while celebrating the power of buying local.

Award winning businesses

We have no shortage of Award-winning businesses within the region, from advanced technology to local producers and hospitality wins. It’s a great time to remember our 2025 Sunshine Coast Business Awards winners, when Coolum based business, Noosa Black Garlic, claimed the Small Food and Agribusiness category and the coveted Business of the Year title (sponsored by Sunshine Coast Council), and Blue Seas AI Consulting and RAIDER Targetry won the Advanced Technology category, also sponsored by Council.

With nominations now open for the 2026 Sunshine Coast Business Awards - this is another important opportunity to celebrate our hard-working local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Keep local businesses thriving!

From fresh produce and retail to events, hospitality and services, residents are encouraged to explore and support the diverse range of local businesses across the region.

Whether it’s grabbing a coffee, booking a service, buying a gift or event ticket, or choosing locally made products, every purchase contributes to a stronger local economy.

Mayor Natoli said the message is simple: support local not just on June 27, but every day.

“Together, we can keep our local businesses thriving.”
