Nambour CBD set for busy year as streetscape works begin

Nambour’s CBD is heading into one of its busiest periods in years, with a mix of streetscape works, building upgrades and new commercial and community spaces planned for 2026.

The changes will coincide with street beautification projects aimed at improving the look and feel of the town centre. While some short-term disruption is expected, local business leaders say planning is under way to support traders, residents and visitors during the transition.

“It’s exciting times ahead for the Nambour CBD in 2026: new shops, new office spaces, community spaces, re-developments of older buildings, street beautification and more,” said Nambour Groups organiser Rhonda Billett.

Ms Billett said Nambour Groups was working closely with Sunshine Coast Council to help the community navigate the works, particularly around Currie and Mill streets.

“We’re partnering with Sunshine Coast Council to include initiatives such as temporary signage and informative QR codes linked to online information that will direct the community in and around the CBD with ease in 2026 while the renovations are being undertaken,” she said.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Economic Development Department has appointed Jorja Holmes, along with existing staff member Mandy Day, to support Nambour group leaders through the changes. They will work alongside council’s planning team and Cr David Law.

“There is a lot coming the Nambour CBDs way in 2026, things happening that we and the community have wanted for our Nambour CBD for a long time,” Ms Billett said. “It will also bring along some temporary disruptions to our business hub, so having Jorja and Mandy assisting businesses, investors, developers and the community will be of great assistance for us all.”

Ms Billett said Nambour Groups was developing a Nambour Economic Road Map for 2026–27, to be shared with government and the community in the coming months.

“From a Nambour Groups perspective, we are certainly on the journey for 2026,” she said. “We are developing a Nambour Economic Road Map that we will share with all levels of government and the community in the months ahead, to further deliver for Nambour.”

“I’m so excited for 2026 in Nambour. We worked really hard in 2025 to secure things for the CBD, we set some goals, created a plan and now its all unfolding for the community.”

Nambour Chamber of Commerce president Mark Bray said the works would bring long-term benefits despite short-term impacts.

“In 2026 we will see a major transformation to the appearance of the Nambour CBD,” Mr Bray said. “This is terrific news for both the business and residential community of Nambour and the hinterland.

“I expect that these works will cause some disruption to Nambour businesses but, when completed, they will give Nambour a totally new look and feel, resulting in a more positive energy for the town.”

Nambour Groups Economic Road Map:

• CBD activation and footfall enhancement through markets, festivals & live music events
