Nambour leaders unite behind $300m investment push
Private money drives new Nambour road map
Nambour Groups leaders have joined forces to develop a community-led economic road map as the town attracts about $300 million in private investment, with more tipped in the year ahead.
Chair Rhonda Billett said the group was excited by the recent investment in town. Ms Billett said strong foundations were being laid so the town and wider community could fully benefit.
Approved projects include the $50 million CBD residential unit development on Currie Street and Bury Street, the Old Mill House hospitality development at Bury Street and Mill Street, the $30 million C-Square commercial office, retail and hospitality redevelopment in Currie Street, the multimillion-dollar Everyday Living supermarket and coffee shop redevelopment in Currie Street and the Savills Road over-55s development by Clifton Lifestyle, worth about $130 million to the local economy.
“There is lots to smile about as these sites have Council approval to proceed, some are currently under construction and there are even more investment on top of these, just to name a few,” said Ms Billett.
Ms Billett said the economic road map provided structure around projects and opportunities for Nambour. “We have lots on the economic table at this time,” Ms Billett said. “There has never been a better time to be in Nambour and investing in good company. A goal without a plan is just a wish, and a plan like this will drive things forward.
“We have presented the foundations of this project to Mayor Rosanna Natoli, CEO John Baker, all divisional councillors, as well as sharing with Marty Hunt and Ted O’Brien.
“All levels of government, our group leaders and our key investors, all driving Nambour forward as one. Private investment has led the way with Nambour in 2026 and we are asking all levels of government to get on board and deliver some exceptional outcomes for Nambour.”
Ms Billett said the group was seeking funding for CBD projects and wanted that funding made a priority, along with other elements needed to create a vibrant and liveable CBD.
She said this included government-owned assets, such as the Nambour Council Chambers being returned to full capacity so the CBD could benefit from increased foot traffic.
Nambour Chamber of Commerce chair Mark Bray said the chamber was committed to the growth and prosperity of Nambour and surrounding areas. “The Nambour Economic Road Map is a document which provides all interested parties with direction and a clear vision as to how that can be achieved into the future,” Mr Bray said. “Nambour is well positioned to become a strong hinterland hub with all the economic benefits that will bring to the area.”
Mayor Rosanna Natoli said confidence was returning to the former sugar town. “As Mayor, I am excited to see the projects planned and approved for Nambour as these will truly catapult the local economy forward. The streetscaping works Council will deliver together with the Queensland Government will also help revitalise the centre of town.
“Confidence has returned to Nambour and we must continue to build on that momentum - both as a council and a community.”
Nambour Tramway Company chairman Greg Rogerson offered his personal congratulations and thanks to every private business investor who had put genuine financial investment in Nambour. “Locals know how good a place Nambour is to live and raise a family and together with the massive increase of new dwellings, forecast business prosperity and associated population growth, Nambour’s future is genuinely looking great – go Nambour! The State Government, through MP Marty Hunt, has also really stepped up to the mark in financially backing our great town.”
Nicklin MP Marty Hunt said Nambour was experiencing a level of confidence and investment it hadn’t seen in decades. He said his Government was matching that optimism with infrastructure funding.
“We are investing $2.53 million in the Nambour Place Plan to deliver practical improvements that make our CBD safer, more connected, and more attractive for businesses, residents and visitors, with more in the pipeline,” he said. “When government and private industry pull in the same direction, great things can happen. Nambour is on the up and up, and the investment flowing into our town shows there is real confidence in our future and enormous potential still to be realised.”
Div 10 Cr David Law said the community-developed Economic Road Map clearly demonstrated the benefits of doing business in Nambour. “I commend this plan to everyone considering Nambour for their business future and growth. And for anyone who wants to know what is happening in our town.”
Fairfax MP Ted O’Brien said Ms Billett had been central to building confidence in Nambour’s future.
“I want to pay credit to Rhonda Billett whose drive and enthusiasm for Nambour has played a massive role in securing funds – especially big private investments – for the town,” he said.
“Nambour’s biggest achievements in the past came from teamwork and so too Nambour’s future will be built on a team effort.”
