Garden group to brighten Nambour planters after Sophie Thomson visit
Nambour’s community garden volunteers are preparing for a busy month, with a Gardening Australia favourite booked for a Queensland Garden Show visit and plans under way to repaint and replant tired CBD planter boxes.
Nambour Grown president Racheal Pascoe told the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch Up that Sophie Thomson would visit the community garden at Nambour Showgrounds during the Queensland Garden Show.
Ms Pascoe said Ms Thomson would lead a garden ramble at the Nambour Grown Community Garden at 1pm on Saturday, July 11.
“If you have a green thumb, come along and enjoy Sophie’s company,” Ms Pascoe said. “She’s really good fun and very knowledgeable.”
Ms Pascoe said the community garden was also working with Sunshine Coast Council on a project to refresh the grey concrete planter boxes around town.
She said volunteers had replanted the boxes in September last year, but the group had now decided to paint them as well.
“Rosanna has given us $1000 to paint,” she said. “So the community garden team and myself are going to paint them probably in August and then endeavour to replant them again, hoping they look lovely, that they will be left alone and we can enjoy them looking a little more fabulous.”
Ms Pascoe said the community garden, based inside the Showgrounds, had to work hard to find income streams.
The group has now taken on a Thursday morning barbecue at the markets to help raise funds.
“If you’ve enjoyed your coffee here and you still fancy a snag, a sausage in bread or a bacon and egg roll, please come outside,” she said. “Our small team of three out there will be super duper pleased to serve you.”
