Gallery: Nambour Now brings new family activation to Town Square Markets

Families visiting the Nambour Town Square Markets on Thursday were welcomed by a new family-friendly activation, thanks to the efforts of local community committee Nambour Now.

Designed primarily for children aged 0 to 5, the play space featured giant games, drawing, construction activities and imaginative play, giving little ones a fun place to play while parents, grandparents and carers wandered the markets and explored local stalls.

Hair braiding, glitter, bubbles, face painting and a range of school holiday activities added to the vibrant atmosphere, creating an enjoyable morning for families.

Nambour Now Chair Helen Tagg said the idea was inspired by a visit to the markets with her own toddler.

“I remember thinking it would be great if there was something for him to do while we were there,” Mrs Tagg said. “That simple thought was really the beginning of this whole initiative.”

Mrs Tagg said the committee wanted to create another reason for families to visit the markets.

“As a parent, you know how much easier it is to enjoy the markets when your child has something fun to do. We wanted to create a space that added to the market experience and encouraged more families to spend time in the town centre.”

Children quickly embraced the new play space, with families stopping to enjoy the activities throughout the morning.

“Seeing children laughing, families spending time together and people enjoying the space was exactly what we’d hoped for,” Mrs Tagg said.

“We’re just a group of everyday people who care about our community. Whether it’s advocating for our town or creating something that brings families together, we simply want to do our little bit to make Nambour an even better place.”

Mrs Tagg thanked fellow committee members Jennifer Barker, who provided hair braiding and glitter, Liam Kment, who also helps deliver the Nambour Town Square Markets and Katie Sullivan for helping bring the activation to life. She also thanked face painter Adriana Cere, the Nambour Town Square Markets team, all the stallholders, and the many families who attended and made the launch such a success.
