Nambour orchid lovers gear up forSpring Show after Maroochydore’s display

Orchid enthusiasts are already looking ahead to next month’s Nambour Orchid Society Spring Show, after a weekend of colour and craftsmanship at the Maroochydore Orchid Society’s annual event in Buderim.

The Maroochy show, held at the Buderim Uniting Church on August 14 and 15, saw growers from across Queensland submit their finest specimens for judging and display.

Nambour Orchid Society president Roger Barratt, who attended the Maroochydore show, described it as a “resounding success” and said it had put local growers in good stead ahead of Nambour’s own show next month.

“With the orchid show season in full bloom up and down the east coast, growers are busy ensuring they’re getting the best from their plants, and Maroochydore’s result was spectacular,” Mr Barratt said.

“It’s a great lead-up to our own Spring Show. I’d encourage anyone who enjoyed Maroochydore to come along and see what our Nambour growers have been working on.”

Clubs belonging to the Sub Tropical Orchid Council of Queensland were well represented at the Maroochydore show, with the organisation covering an extensive region from Rockhampton to Caboolture. Member clubs support orchid shows throughout the region and assist with judging on behalf of the Australian Orchid Council, which awards certificates to growers who submit outstanding plants.

Mr Barratt said the Nambour Orchid Society was looking forward to giving local enthusiasts the chance to see the region’s finest orchids up close. “We always love seeing new faces at our show,” he said. “Whether you’re an experienced grower or just curious about orchids, there’s something for everyone.”

He added that this year’s Nambour show promised to be one of the Society’s best yet. “Our members have been preparing for months, and the variety and quality of blooms on display keeps growing every year,” Mr Barratt said. “It’s a wonderful, relaxed day out for the whole family, and entry is a small price to pay for such a beautiful afternoon.”

The Nambour Orchid Society’s Spring Orchid Show will be held at the Nambour Uniting Church, Coronation Avenue, Nambour, on September 4 and 5. Open to all Orchid Society members, our Spring Orchid Show features beautiful orchid displays, plant sales, vendors, and more. The event supports Cittamani Hospice Service.
