Nambour Spring Expo marks 70 years in bloom
The Nambour Orchid Society’s 70th anniversary celebrations were crowned with the success of the Nambour Spring Expo 2025, which drew crowds to marvel at a spectacular sea of blossoms.
From the moment visitors stepped into the hall, they were greeted by the striking Dendrobium speciosum, with its dense white, cream and yellow flower spikes and a fragrance that filled the air. The display was complemented by the delicate pinks of the kingianums, setting the stage for more than 500 benched orchids competing across classes. Judges faced the challenge of awarding the best among a dazzling array of specimens.
Despite the year’s challenging weather, exhibitors presented orchids of remarkable quality, a testament to the skill and dedication of local growers. Twelve busloads of orchid enthusiasts travelled from across Queensland, joining locals to browse displays, hear from expert guest speakers and stock up on plants and supplies from vendors. Palmwoods Arts and Crafts also added colour with handmade merchandise and artwork.
The Expo carried extra weight this year as part of the Society’s milestone 70th anniversary, held in conjunction with the STOCQ conference. President Roger Barratt thanked members, sponsors, volunteers and supporters, noting the event was funded through countless hours of community fundraising.
A highlight was the announcement that $10,000 raised from the Expo will be donated to Cittamani Hospice Service, continuing a decade-long partnership that has seen $33,850 contributed to the charity’s in-home end-of-life care.
The Nambour Orchid Society now looks ahead to its next showcase, the Nambour Species Show at Buderim on November 8.
