Heartbreak for Nambour in grand final thriller
Nambour’s C Grade men went agonisingly close to the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union premiership, falling 28-25 to Maroochydore in a grand final thriller at Cotton Tree on Friday night.
Scores were locked 25-all after regulation time, forcing two 10-minute periods of extra time.
Maroochydore showed more poise in the extra time and slotted a penalty to take a three-point lead which they maintained until the final whistle despite continued pressure with Nambour pressing hard on the Maroochydore line until the final whistle.
Nambour’s senior women also remain in the finals race despite going down 20-14 to Noosa on Saturday.
They now face Maroochydore in Saturday’s preliminary final at the University, with the winner to meet Noosa in the September 5 grand final.
In A Grade, Maroochydore has booked its grand final place and will face the winner of Saturday’s University-Noosa preliminary final.
The senior grand finals are scheduled for September 5 at Maroochydore Rugby Union Club, Cotton Tree.
