Yandina fruit expertise finds its way into protein yoghurt range
A new high-protein yoghurt range on Woolworths shelves has a local ingredient behind it, following development work involving Yandina fruit processor Tropico Fruits.
The Australian-owned manufacturer partners with both established and emerging retail brands to develop fruit preparations for protein yoghurt ranges, reflecting the strong growth and continued consumer demand for protein-based dairy products.
Tropico’s Executive Commercial Manager Mel Warren said much of the work behind a supermarket launch took place long before shoppers saw the finished product.
“We’re seeing more yoghurt and ice-cream brands experimenting with higher-protein formats, and a big part of that work happens well before anything reaches supermarket shelves,” he said.
“From our end, it’s meant a steady increase in collaborative product development, testing flavours, textures and fruit formats that work within protein-heavy recipes, without losing taste or balance. Our team brings the technical expertise and a practical understanding of how to take a product from brief and concept to retail shelves. We value partnerships built on aligned values and transparency, creating a process that is more enjoyable, productive and successful. We are proud of what the team is achieving. As GLP-1 continues to influence the way consumers think about food, we are seeing growing demand for nutrient-dense options that deliver more from every serve. Ingredients such as fibre and protein are becoming increasingly important, as consumers look for foods that support satiety, balance and overall wellbeing. Our Production and PD teams are actively exploring exciting new SKUs that respond to these evolving trends, so stay tuned for what is coming next.”
Founded on the Sunshine Coast in 1980, Tropico processes Australian-grown fruit into juices, purees and specialised preparations from its Yandina factory.
Its role in the protein yoghurt range highlights how regional manufacturers can help larger brands develop and test new products, particularly when smaller production runs, flexibility and access to Australian fruit are important.
