Yandina-based Oly Homes offers another path: a permanent, carefully designed home manufactured locally and delivered in a fraction of the usual time.

Oly Homes has more than 50 years’ experience in modular construction and has delivered more than 2200 homes. 

Led by qualified builder and owner Dale Funston, the company employs about 80 people and builds homes for families, first-home buyers, retirees, downsizers and remote property owners.

Dale recognised that modular construction could offer far more than the basic transportable buildings many people still associate with the industry. 

His aim has been to provide attractive, comfortable and durable homes designed for Queensland conditions.

Central to the Oly Homes difference is its collaborative design process. 

“Customers can begin with one of about 20 standard designs, ranging from one-bedroom dwellings to five-bedroom family homes, then work with our in-house design team to modify layouts, finishes and features,” said Dale.

“The result is a home shaped around the customer’s land, lifestyle and future plans.”

Additional modules and extensions can also be incorporated later as circumstances change.

Construction takes place in factory conditions, giving tradespeople a consistent workplace while reducing weather delays and improving control over quality, scheduling and materials. “Once approvals are completed, the average build time is 8 to 10 weeks,” said Dale. 

The approach also makes the building experience less stressful. 

“Oly Homes manages council and building approvals,” said Dale. “Meanwhile our customers receive regular progress updates as their home takes shape.”

One customer, Neal, said the company made planning a custom home easy.

“Throughout the entire planning phase we were made to feel in full control of ensuring our vision was achieved,” he said.

Oly Homes uses Australian BlueScope steel framing and structural systems designed to withstand Queensland’s demanding conditions. 

Its work has been recognised through Housing Industry Association and Master Builders awards, including honours for modular housing, steel-frame construction and display homes.

Factory-based manufacturing also produces up to 90 percent less construction waste than traditional methods, while off-grid and energy-efficient options are available.
