Orchid experts wow Garden Show crowd ahead of Spring Expo

The Nambour Orchid Society attracted a record crowd at this year’s Nambour Garden Show, with a striking display and expert advice drawing keen interest from visitors.

Society members were on hand to share tips and techniques for getting the best results from home-grown orchids. Among them was renowned Dendrobium expert Cliff Alexander, whose passion for this genus stretches back to his childhood in Proserpine.

“Cliff’s knowledge of Dendrobiums, which range from Korea and Southeast Asia to Australia and New Zealand, is second to none,” said Nambour Orchid Society President Roger Barratt.

Also present was long-time Nambour Orchid Society member Peter Young, whose background as owner of Birdwood Nursery and current focus on Phalaenopsis orchids has made him a respected figure in the orchid world. Mr Young will be one of the guest speakers at the upcoming Spring Orchid Expo 2025.

Adding further horticultural firepower, Gardening Australia presenter Sophie Thomson visited the display, sharing her broad knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors.
