Palmwoods Memorial Hall seeks community support

The Palmwoods Memorial Hall committee is seeking volunteers to help maintain and support one of the hinterland’s most loved community spaces.

Located at 1 Main Street, the Palmwoods Memorial Hall has long been a focal point for the town and surrounding district. From Saturday night dances in decades past to today’s permaculture workshops, concerts, weddings and local services, the hall is still used daily by a wide range of groups and visitors from across the Sunshine Coast.

The committee behind the hall is calling for volunteers to lend a hand with everything from helping at functions and working bees, to administration and general maintenance. A couple of hours a month is all it takes.

“It’s not onerous,” said committee member Bernadette Meredith. “We’re hoping to build a team of happy volunteers who feel proud to be part of something meaningful in the community.”

Mrs Meredith said there’s a particular appeal for those who appreciate the hall’s heritage value and its ongoing importance as a community hub. “Perhaps there are people new to the area who’d like to get involved and meet others in the town,” she said.

Volunteers are not expected to take on large workloads or major responsibilities. Monthly committee meetings offer a chance to stay in the loop and contribute ideas. Practical help such as basic repairs, admin support or helping set up for events is greatly appreciated.

The Palmwoods RSL subbranch also makes use of the space, and local pride in the hall runs deep. “Palmwoods locals care about their village and want to keep it vibrant and welcoming. This is a great way to do that,” Mrs Meredith said.

Whether you’re a retiree with a few spare hours, a handy person with maintenance skills, or just someone keen to lend a hand and connect, the committee would love to hear from you.
