Modern jazz to light up The Presynct

Phil Hayter’s Illuminators blend original jazz-hop funk with swinging hard-bop standards, Latin influences and expressive ballads.

Phil Hayter’s Illuminators will bring an electrifying night of modern jazz to The Jazz Sessions at The Presynct, Nambour, on Thursday, July 16.

Woodwind artist and composer Phil Hayter has spent more than 25 years building a career across Australia and overseas.

Introduced to jazz at the age of 10 by Australian jazz legend Bob Sedergreen, he went on to spend 16 years performing in Melbourne’s leading jazz venues, including Bird’s Basement, The JazzLab, Paris Cat Jazz Club, Bennett’s Lane and Dizzy’s.

He has also appeared at major festivals, including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Stonnington International Jazz Festival, as well as the Mont Kiara International Jazz Festival and Kuching Jazz Festival in Malaysia.

Now based on the Sunshine Coast, Phil continues to perform widely across Queensland and beyond.

He has released two albums as a bandleader, contributed to many more as a sideman and appeared on ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks alongside R&B artist THNDO.

Phil Hayter’s Illuminators blend original jazz-hop funk with swinging hard-bop standards, Latin influences and expressive ballads. Playing multiple saxophones and flute, Phil leads a group focused on deep grooves, improvisation and strong musical interplay.

He will be joined by Denis Feletto on keyboards, Owen Newcomb on double bass and Mitch Francis on drums.

Phil Hayter’s Illuminators will perform at The Jazz Sessions @ The Presynct, upstairs at 15 Ann Street, Nambour, on Thursday, July 16. Doors open at 6pm, with the show from 6.30pm. Book at www.oztix.com.au. Details: info@sassyjazz.com.au.
