Former sports CEO backs Nambour with new Planet Wash venture

A brand new laundromat has opened next door to Domino’s in Currie Street Nambour, and for owner Peter McLennan, the venture represents both a complete change of career direction and a labour of love.

“I was speaking with a good friend who has a number of laundromats, and it felt like a great industry to get into,” Peter said.

‘He mentored me as I opened one of my own. I was looking for a change, and opening Planet Wash has certainly been a big change for me.”

Peter, who has spent most of his career in sports management, as CEO of the Brisbane Bullets and Brisbane Roar, as well as CCO of the Brisbane Lions, chose Nambour because of his lifelong association with the town.

“I have been traveling through Nambour pretty much all of my life, and I just really like the town,” Peter said.

“I think there is so much opportunity there.”

Planet Wash opened on the 14th of January and already Peter has enjoyed very positive feedback.

“What I have learned about setting up a laundromat is that they need to be as user friendly as they can possibly be. This means plenty of parking close by, easy access, great visibility and security, and a variety of different sized machines for different purposes.

In the past, laundromats were often associated with a certain stigma or a perception of being unclean. However, that has changed significantly. Our facilities feature state-of-the-art washers and dryers capable of efficiently handling larger items such as linen, doonas and blankets” he said

“It is convenient for everyone, including AirBNB hosts and travellers.”

So far, customers have enjoyed the light, bright, fresh premises and state of the art facilities. The self-service laundry boasts large-capacity commercial machines, fast wash and dry cycles to save you time and will be open 365 days a year from 6am to 9pm for your convenience.

“It is a real learning experience for me, but one I am enjoying very much, and I’m very happy to be part of the Nambour community” Peter said.
