MP urges local businesses to apply for safety grants
Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt is calling on local businesses to put forward practical project ideas to improve safety in their communities, as a new round of state government funding opens for applications.
The Secure Communities Partnership Grants program offers 50/50 funding from Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Government to support physical and environmental safety upgrades. Local councils can apply for grants of up to $400,000 in round 1 of the program to fund measures that improve the security of local small and family businesses.
The grant funding will support councils to install critical safety updates like CCTV, alarm systems and security lighting to make small businesses safer. Eligible projects include CCTV systems, outdoor lighting, intercoms, bollards, fencing, signage and other visible deterrents.
Mr Hunt said safety remained one of the top concerns for residents and businesses across the electorate, particularly in the Nambour CBD. In a message to chambers of commerce, Mr Hunt encouraged organisations to advocate on behalf of members and develop community-based proposals.
“I stand ready to fight for extra funding for our area and pursue ideas from business in regards to making our community safer.
“A recent community survey still shows that community safety is a major concern for our area. I encourage local Chambers to advocate on behalf of businesses for any project ideas that fit within the scope of the funding and am pleased to assistance along the way as needed.”
