The ‘rise and rise’ of former Montville school student, Sam Lucas
Former Montville local and internationally renowned cellist Sam Lucas, has continued his musical trajectory with back to back performances at venues around the globe, last month.
“In a three week period, Sam performed in Germany, Italy and London, where he was soloist in the Pal Hermann cello concerto, plus recitals,” said his father and owner of Montville’s Lucas Parklands, Ian Lucas.
“He then flew to Melbourne where he performed at Hamer Hall, to Sydney the following day, where he performed at the Opera House, and then returned to Koblenz in Germany and performed there immediately he arrived. He follows a punishing schedule, but would not have it any other way,” he said.
From an early age, Sam showed exceptional talent as a cellist and gained global recognition after moving to Germany in 2017.
He has performed internationally across venues which include the Palace of Culture and the National School of Music in Sofia, St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Wigmore Hall in London (2016 and again in 2025).
In 2015, he was invited to perform for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In 2025, Sam was a guest artist at the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony at the European Parliament, a performance that reached millions around the world, and was an invited performer with the Australian World Orchestra in Melbourne and Sydney.
Sam is currently the Principal Cellist of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, a professional symphony orchestra in Koblenz, Germany.
