Stevens Street Gallery closes its doors in Yandina – but a more dynamic chapter begins

After five vibrant years of thoughtfully curated exhibitions, artist talks, creative workshops, community events and countless inspiring conversations around art, Stevens Street Gallery will close its physical space in Yandina at the end of this month.

Since taking over the gallery in 2020, owner Toni Eggleston and gallery curator Alicia Mireille, the gallery has built a loyal following for its thoughtfully curated themed exhibitions and its commitment to championing local artists, having supported hundreds of Sunshine Coast artists over the past five years. While the Stevens Street premises will soon farewell its final exhibition, the gallery itself is far from closing.

In a recent newsletter to supporters, Toni and Alicia described the decision as a significant shift – but not an ending.

“After five incredible years in our Yandina space, we will be closing the doors to our physical gallery at the end of this month,” Toni said. “While this is a significant change, our commitment remains the same: to continue supporting artists and connecting collectors with meaningful, collectible work — just in more dynamic ways.”

Alicia said Stevens Street Gallery has always been about more than bricks and mortar. “It’s about discovering artists, curating thoughtful exhibitions and building lasting relationships between artists and collectors,” she said. “We’re not evaporating as a business — we’re pivoting to suit the changing retail landscape. If anything, we’ll be more present and more personal through art advisory services and direct client engagement.”

Moving forward, the gallery will continue to operate online, participate in The Australian Affordable Art Fairs and present curated pop-up exhibitions in carefully selected locations.

“A gypsy gallery,” Alicia said with a smile. “We’re already exploring exciting pop-up spaces and fresh opportunities to bring art into unexpected places – so watch this space.”

While the decision has been bittersweet, there is also a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead.

“As hard as it is to say goodbye to our beautiful gallery, we’re also excited,” Toni said. “This new chapter offers greater flexibility and the opportunity to present work in fresh and inspiring contexts, while continuing to champion the artists our community love.”

StevenToni and Alicia expressed heartfelt thanks to the Yandina community and their loyal collectors, acknowledging the vital role they have played in the gallery’s journey over the past five years.
