Leaf your mark on a greener hinterland

Residents are being encouraged to help shape a cooler, greener future for their neighbourhoods — and take home a free tree — as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s refreshed Street Tree Master Plan.

The plan aims to expand the region’s tree canopy, reduce urban heat, and preserve the hinterland lifestyle by ensuring the right trees are planted in the right places.

Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Maria Suarez said the initiative was about   creating cooler, greener neighbourhoods that reflected the character and values of the region. Locals can share their feedback at community pop-up events this month or online via Have Your Say Sunshine Coast before November 7.

Free trees will be available to the first 50 visitors at each event, with participants also going into the draw to win a $100 nursery voucher.

Pop-ups include Buderim Village Park on October 15, Kolora Park Palmwoods and Jessica Park Minyama on October 18, and Tickle Park Coolum on October 20.
