Local gymnasts bound for New Zealand challenge

Chloe Abdou, Holly Russell and Ayesha Youlten are bound for New Zealand.

Three senior gymnasts from Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Academy in Woombye are preparing to represent their club overseas at the Canterbury Senior Championships in New Zealand.

Chloe Abdou, Holly Russell and Ayesha Youlten will travel to New Zealand on August 12 for the international competition.

Head Coach Rimma Lazarus who has more than 30 years of coaching experience, will accompany the girls. Rimma has guided athletes at competitions across Australia and around the world, helping young gymnasts gain valuable experience and achieve their competitive goals. 

“The athletes have dedicated countless hours to training, demonstrating commitment, resilience and passion for their sport,” she said. “Their selection is a significant achievement for the gymnasts and a small, community-based club that has supported them throughout their gymnastics journeys.

“Travelling overseas to compete is an incredible opportunity and a reward for years of hard work and dedication,” Rimma said.

“Chloe, Holly and Ayesha have shown outstanding commitment to their training and are wonderful ambassadors for our club.”

Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt is supporting the trip with a $250 Nicklin Community Grant.

Mr Hunt said it was a privilege to support the three gymnasts as they prepare to represent their club and community on the international stage.

“Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable for young athletes, giving them the chance to gain experience, challenge themselves and create memories that will stay with them for years to come,” Mr Hunt said. “I wish Chloe, Holly, Ayesha and Coach Rimma safe travels and every success at the Canterbury Senior Championships. I know our community will be cheering them on.”

Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Academy is a not-for-profit club that has built a strong reputation for developing athletes in a supportive and community-focused environment.

The Canterbury championships will allow Chloe, Holly and Ayesha to compete against gymnasts from different regions, broaden their sporting experience and create lasting memories.

Excitement is building throughout the Woombye club with fellow gymnasts, coaches, families and supporters preparing to follow the team’s progress from home.

The academy community has wished Chloe, Holly, Ayesha and Rimma safe travels and every success as they represent Woombye and the Sunshine Coast on the international stage.
