House fire sparks late-night emergency response

Police are investigating a suspicious house fire at a Nambour address in the early hours of this morning (Friday, 24 July).

Just after midnight, police were called to reports of a fire at Lachlan Avenue.

A crime scene has been declared, and investigations are ongoing.

No one was in the home at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

Resident Tony Bryant said he was woken about 1am by the sound of a fire truck reversing along the street.

Mr Bryant said a second fire truck and police van were parked further along the road, where emergency services had cordoned off a darkened house.

The incident occurred about a week after a car reportedly exploded outside a neighbouring property in the same street.

“So at 1.38am, I’m hoping we can now get back to sleep without any further excitement,” Mr Bryant said.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity or may have relevant vision in the area at the time of the incident is urged to contact police.

Police were on site since 7.30am on July 24, with several vans and numbers of officers there at first. Two units were still on site at about 3pm.

A plain clothes officer said the incident was "now an ongoing investigation".

“I could see from the kerb that the house itself has severe ground-floor damage with burnt or smashed-out windows and obvious fire damage inside,” said Mr Bryant.
