Volunteers wanted as Big Spring Clean returns to spruce up CBD

Nambour residents are being invited to roll up their sleeves and help give the town centre a spring clean when the Nambour Big Spring Clean returns on Sunday, September 13.

The community clean-up will run from 8am to midday, with organisers shortening the event from a full day following feedback from volunteers who took part last year.

The change is aimed at making the event more accessible and manageable for people keen to lend a hand without committing an entire day.

Volunteers will focus on Civic Way, Currie Street and Lowe Street, tackling jobs including gurney cleaning, planter box maintenance, litter collection and graffiti removal.

Nambour Groups Chair Rhonda Billett said previous volunteers were also being invited back, while new participants were encouraged to register.

“We’re looking forward to another successful community-led effort to keep Nambour looking its best,”  said Rhonda. 

“Last year we had over 100 community participants and we would love to see those numbers again this year to restore some town pride and have a little fun in the process. I also encourage participants to bring along a bucket and gloves. This event is a part of Clean Up Australia Day, aimed to encourage locals to take part in making a difference in their community.”

The event has also been registered with Clean Up Australia, with organisers hoping businesses, community groups and residents will help spread the word and encourage more volunteers to take part.

The Big Spring Clean forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the presentation of central Nambour and bring the community together to care for shared public spaces.

Nicklin MP Marty Hunt said the Nambour Big Spring Clean was a fantastic community-led event last year. “My team and I were proud to take part, and it was not only a great way to give back to our community and show some pride in our town, but a fantastic team-building exercise as well. I encourage local businesses to get on board this year and register. It’s a great opportunity to bring your staff together, give back to Nambour and make a real difference. It will no doubt be a very productive Sunday morning.”

This event is separate from the Petrie Creek Catchment Care Group's clean-up, which focuses on Petrie Creek and takes place the day before, Saturday, September 12 (see story, this page for details).
