Setting the tone: Forest Glen bakery rises to win national award

The White’s IGA Forest Glen team accepts the 2026 IGA National Medium Bakery Department of the Year award.

White’s IGA Forest Glen has risen to the top of the nation, winning a major category at the 2026 IGA National Awards of Excellence.

The local supermarket was named the National Medium Bakery Department of the Year at the annual awards, held at The Star Gold Coast on July 13.

The event recognised Australia’s top-performing IGA stores, with star hosts Claudia Karvan and Rodger Corser presenting 24 awards to IGA and Foodland IGA independent retailers from across the country.

White’s IGA Forest Glen’s bakery is the first department customers encounter when entering the store and has been designed to set the tone for their shopping experience.

Alongside bakery staples, the department offers in-store baked specialities including cherry pies, cookies and bread rolls.

Its range also caters for the busy school drop-off trade, with cakes, muffins and bread, while showcasing products from local producers.

White’s IGA owner Roz White said the award reflected the care, pride, and passion the team poured in to serving the Forest Glen community. “We’re proud to provide our local community with an exceptional bakery offering and to win up against some incredible IGA stores across Australia, is a true testament to the hard work of our team.  The White’s group was also nominated in other categories. White’s IGA Forest Glen were nominated for the 2026 IGA National Medium Dairy & Freezer Department of the Year, and White’s IGA Mooloolah were nominated for the 2026 IGA National Innovation Award.

Mrs White said the department’s success reflected the store’s focus on providing customers with quality, variety and local products.

The Forest Glen win continues White’s IGA’s strong reputation among Australia’s independent supermarkets and places its bakery department among the best in the country.
