Whites IGA Launches “Little Locavores” at the Sunshine Coast Show
Whites IGA is thrilled to announce the launch of its newest community initiative, “Little Locavores,” at the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show, running from 13–15 June 2025 at the Nambour Showgrounds.
The Little Locavores program is designed to inspire and educate children about the value of local food, farming, and sustainability.
Aimed at kids aged 17 and under, the initiative encourages hands-on learning and celebrates the next generation of growers, producers, and food lovers.
To kickstart the program, Whites IGA has partnered with the Sunshine Beach State School where students have been learning about why it’s important to grow locally and recently grew their own microgreens in their school permaculture garden. Students came into store where they proudly chatted to customers about the process and of the benefits of eating fresh, local produce, with all proceeds donated to local charity, Smart Pups Assistance Dogs.
Roz White, Director of Whites IGA, said the program builds on the success of the Whites IGA Locavore program, which has long supported local growers, producers and businesses across the Sunshine Coast.
“Little Locavores is about planting the seeds of curiosity and pride in our local food systems,” said Ms. White.
“We want to empower kids to understand where their food comes from and to celebrate the incredible produce grown right here in our region.”
This year you can get your kids involved in a fun, educational, and rewarding experience at the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show. Whether they grow veggies in the backyard, collect eggs from the chook pen, or just love learning about food, this is their time to shine.
Get their entries together and showcase them at the show. They can even win great prizes. Come along to the Sunshine Coast Show and be part of a movement that celebrates local, supports sustainability, and nurtures young minds.
