‘A wonderful resource for the local community’

Woombye Community Library news by Cathy Cash

With National Volunteer Week celebrated around the country in late May, the Executive Committee would like to give a big thank you to our 28-strong band of volunteers who together provide a 5 ½ day free library service to Woombye and surrounding communities.

On our most recent satisfaction survey feedback from borrowers the library volunteer staff received all positive comments including “providing exceptional service and willingness to assist”, “volunteers are always cheerful and it’s a pleasure to come” plus “a wonderful resource for the local community”.

One of the valued volunteers is Janene Lang from Rosemount.

Janene has offered her time and expertise in book cataloguing for over 4 years in the Library, having formerly held positions at Nambour State High School and Sunshine Coast Grammar School as a library assistant.

Despite having a pretty full schedule as an owner of a small business, Janene makes time to volunteer once a fortnight, cataloguing new acquisitions and assisting customers with their loan choices.

She relishes the interaction with library users and loves to help people find their next great read.

The theme of this year’s National Volunteer Week is “Connecting Communities” and as library volunteers we all strive to achieve this aim, maintaining a safe and welcoming space for adults and children alike to enjoy making local connections and engage in friendly conversation amidst an everchanging wealth of written words.

If you are new to the area and have a passion for reading please visit us at Woombye Community Library at the School of Arts Hall on the corner of Blackall and Hill Sts.

We look forward to welcoming you as a borrower to our volunteer-run community library service.
