Woombye Festival set to fill town with music

Woombye Festival will bring Hill Street to life on Sunday May 3, with a full day of live entertainment, school performances, food and community activity.
The annual festival will again centre on community, with Patch the Pineapple joining locals and visitors for a day designed to celebrate the town and the people who help give it its character.

This year’s entertainment program will run across three stages, with a mix of local musicians, school choirs, theatre groups and storytellers.

The Street Stage will open with Maleny-born country-pop performer Shanleigh Rose from 10am. She will be followed by The Barleyshakes from 12.10pm, bringing Irish tunes and festival energy, before Sunshine Coast brothers Frank and Louis perform from 2.20pm.

The Main Hall Stage will feature Acting Up Youth Theatre from 10.45am, the Suncoast Primary Choir at 11.50am, Woombye State School Senior and Junior Choir at 12.55pm, the Montville/Mapleton State School Combined Choir at 2pm and CADMA, Coast Academy of Dramatic & Musical Arts, at 3pm.

The Lower Hall Stage, themed Tales of Woombye, will feature a steady line-up from 10.20am, including Don Pringle, Margaret Woodrow, Kerry-Anne and Lachie Hughes, Lynn Mabb, Laura Scwesio, Andrew Pitcher, Stephen Marshall, Raj Guntapalli, Gail Grigg and Rachel Snee.

Organisers say the festival is about more than food, crafts and music, with community organisations also on show and opportunities for visitors to learn more about their work.

Hill Street will be transformed for the day, with food stalls offering Asian cuisine, burgers, pizza and popcorn, while local performers replace the usual traffic noise with music and activity.

The festival has become a familiar celebration for Woombye, bringing neighbours, families, schools and community groups together in the heart of town.
