Patch the Pineapple welcomed to Woombye

There’s a new local celebrity bringing smiles to the Sunshine Coast. Patch the Pineapple, the official mascot of The Woombye Festival, is fast becoming the face of community spirit in this historic hinterland town.

Patch’s story is firmly rooted in Woombye’s past. Once a thriving centre of Queensland’s pineapple farming industry, the town has long been connected to the iconic tropical fruit. Patch was created as a playful tribute to that heritage - a bright, friendly reminder of the region’s agricultural roots and the generations who helped shape it.

Today, Patch represents something even bigger. As the Woombye Festival mascot, Patch has become a symbol of connection, joy, and inclusivity - greeting festival goers, posing for photos, and spreading energy wherever they go. Event organisers say Patch plays an important role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for all ages. “Patch is more than just a mascot, Patch is part of the experience,” Milo Frawley, the Festival Director said, “Patch brings a real sense of fun and cheekiness to the day.”

For younger visitors, Patch is a bubbly, fun-loving character who brings an extra layer of joy to the festival experience. Always full of energy, Patch can be found laughing, dancing, and creating magical moments for children and families alike, turning simple interactions into lasting memories.

And when it comes to finding Patch at this year’s festival, the answer is simple - Patch will be everywhere, all at once. From the Kids Zone to wandering down Hill Street, Patch will be right in the heart of the action. You might spot Patch enjoying a refreshing beverage in the beer garden, having a go at barefoot bowls, or dancing along to the talented local artists performing throughout the day.

Patch will be one of the highlights of this year’s Woombye Festival, set to take place on Sunday, 3 May from 10am on Hill Street, Woombye. The much-loved community event promises a full day of entertainment, local stalls, food, and family-friendly activities -  with Patch right at the centre of it all.

Organisers are encouraging locals and visitors alike to come along, soak up the atmosphere, and meet Woombye’s sweetest ambassador in person.

Because in Woombye, it seems, community spirit doesn’t just grow -  it comes with a smile, a wave, and a crown of pineapple leaves.
